WATCH: KJP Scrambles When Reporter Asks When Gas Prices Will Come Down

During a recent White House press briefing, Karine Jean-Pierre scrambled to explain when gas prices will begin to fall.  Many American consumers are still reeling from the impacts of the historically high inflation over the past several years, which has strained wallets and household budgets.

A reporter asked KJP, “How much longer will it be for Americans to then bring down oil prices?”  The press secretary proceeded to claim that gas prices have already come down, citing various actions taken by President Biden.

“So look, because the President’s unprecedented actions that he took as it relates to the oil, we saw gas prices go down, which is important at the tank to Americans across the country. And that was something that the President took really seriously because he knew what Americans were dealing with,” she said.

However, some have pointed out that gas prices still remain significantly elevated compared to the previous Trump administration.  X account RNC Research refuted the press secretary’s claim, writing that gas prices are still nearly 44% higher than when Biden took office.

Jean-Pierre claimed in her response to the reporter that prices have gone down two-thirds in light of Biden’s efforts to provide “breathing room” for the American consumer.  According to KJP, Biden will continue to attempt to lower costs for Americans across the economy.

“He wanted to give them a little bit of a breathing room. And we have to be we have to also use your data guy, you pay attention to the data, the fact that it went down two-thirds matters. And so what the President’s going to continue to do is making sure that we lower cost, right, he bet is the number one part of his economic plan to continue to lower costs for Americans, and we’re going to continue to do that how,” she added.

Users on social media have questioned the validity of Jean-Pierre’s claims, citing their anecdotes alongside alleged statistics that show prices are still well above where they were when Biden stepped into the White House.

“Liar. All I’m feeling are much higher gas prices after 3+ years of the Biden regime. According to AAA, the average national gas price was $2.41 when Biden took office. The average national gas price today is $3.43. A month ago, it was $3.27, so the price is heading up again,” one person commented on X.

Another individual slammed the Biden administration’s policies toward the oil and gas industry, claiming their actions have only driven up the price of gasoline and, by extension, many other products across the economy.  The user called for more drilling in the United States interior while longing for the economic situation many Americans enjoyed under the Trump administration.

“JOE’S BAD POLICIES PUSH GAS PRICES HIGH WHICH DRIVES UP THE COST OF EVERYTHING YOU NEED & USE EVERYDAY! IF we don’t drill in USA, Hard Working American Taxpayers will continue to suffer! Gas was $1.86 while TRUMP was in office & Americans were doing well financially,” they said.
