Female Oklahoma Homeowner Uses Firearm To Defend Self From Young Male Home Invader

A female homeowner in Oklahoma found herself in deadly danger when a young man, reportedly 23 years old, allegedly broke into her home on January 12, 2024. Fortunately for her, however, the homeowner was armed and so able to defend herself from the alleged home invader and stop the alleged threat before the police arrived.

According to local media reports and the local police department, the incident occurred in the early morning on January 12 and the woman shot the alleged home invader after calling the police about the home invasion but before they arrived. The police said they interviewed her and determined she had acted lawfully in using deadly force against the alleged intruder, though the local District Attorney will have the final say in determining whether the woman will be charged.

Posting about the incident on its Facebook page, the Bartlesville Police Department noted that officers from the department responded to a call about the situation and were notified that the homeowner shot the alleged intruder while on their way to respond to the home invasion call.

The department wrote, describing that aspect of the incident, “On Jan. 12, 2024, Bartlesville Police Department E-911 dispatchers received a call advising of a possible home intrusion in the 1800 block of South Keeler Avenue. While officers were en route to that location, the dispatch center notified officers that the homeowner had shot the intruder.”

Continuing, the department added, “Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and found an adult male at the threshold of the residence who had sustained a gunshot injury. Officers immediately administered first aid and continued aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. The man was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.”

Commenting to News on 6 about the incident and shooting, local mother Laci Robertson said that it was frightening considering what could happen with stray bullets. She told the outlet, “With that happening just right here, you never know when a stray bullet or something could go on.” Robertson continued, “You know there’s things that happen, but you just don’t really think it’s going to happen so close to home.”

Emphasizing that point about something going disastrously wrong, Robertson added, “Because I think, what if in that moment, I’m getting my child out the door for school and somebody just comes right through? And in that moment, what do I do?”

Robertson then noted that it is terrifying to consider the direction the world is headed, telling News on 6 “You live in a place, and you think ‘oh, we’re safe here. It’s fine.’ But the world is just getting more and more crazy every day.”

Captain Daniel Elkins of the local Bartlesville Police Department, commenting on the situation, told News on 6, “It’s very unfortunate, and we’re glad no one else was hurt in the process. The homeowner felt like they had to do what was necessary, and that’s ultimately their choice.”
